  • Land Preparation

    A. Land Preparation

    1. Clearing the land of grass/weeds and remaining plant roots, so that plant growth is not disturbed by pests and disease hosts.
    2. Plowing the soil and turning if with a tractor as deep as 30-40 cm to loosen the soil and improve soil drainage and aeration.
    3. Giving dolomitic lime when tilling the soil if the soil pH < 6.
    4. Making beds 120 cm wide and 30-40 cm high depending on the season, 50-60 cm wide ditch and bed length according to land conditions.
    5. Applying manure on the beds and stirring evenly until loose, needs 10 tonnes/ha.
    6. Apply basic fertilizer NPK 50 gr, SP.36 25 gr Per m².
    7. Covering the surface of the bed with soil from the trench until it is evenly distributed

  • Nursery

    B. Nursery

    1. Seedling Media

     Fine Top Soil
     Fine manure
     Baked husk/sand of times
     Media ratio 2 : 1 : 1

    2. Seedling Tools & Materials

     Plastic tray pre sowing
     Used newsprint
     Ice plastic for garnishing
     Pesticide Benlate 0.5 gram/liter
     Carbofuran Insecticide 50 grams
The seedling media is mixed evenly with insecticide
     Melon seeds, usually done pre-sowing
Soak melon seeds in warm water for 1 hour, then drain on a plastic tray, cover with 2 sheets of wet newspaper, space the seeds so they don't overlap and then cover with 2 sheets of newspaper wet again and cover the plastic tray for 1 day 1 night.
Furthermore, the seeds that have started to grow are transferred to the plastic cover / seedling tray that has been filled with the seedling media, and watered.
The need for melon seeds per hectare is 16,000 seeds if you use double row beds.

  • Planting

    C. Planting

    1. Melon spacing between rows of 60 cm. within rows of 60 cm.
    2. Planting melon seeds, done after 5-7 days old seedlings, that is, after 2 strands of leaves.
    3. Before the seeds are planted, to prevent bacterial wilt disease, polybags containing the seeds are soaked in Agrept solution.
    4. Plant one seed per planting hole, by prying the media tray or tearing the piece of plastic so that the media near the roots does not break and planting it into the planting hole. Flush/sow a few grains of carbofuran insecticide to control caterpillars/crickets.

  • Plant Maintenance

    D. Plant Maintenance

    1. Installation of the trellis
For a vine planting model aged 10 HST, install bamboo slats, 2 meters long.
The ledge is plugged into the hole near the plant and tied to the top of the ledge next to it. 2. Watering
Irrigation is carried out regularly in the morning or evening, especially in the early growth phase, either by licking or watering with a hose.
    3. Binding of plants
Installation of plant vines at the same time as propagating plants 4. Selection of Plant branch
There are 2 ways the formation of branching plants:
First the main branch is maintained by adding V-shaped side branches.
Second, cut the tops of plants at the age of 10 DAP on the 3rd segment and maintain the 2 growing secondary branches.
    5. Binding of plants
Tying with raffia/blabar rope along the height of the trellis times 2 and adding 2 spans of hands. String the rope over the crossbar to the two ends of the rope tied to the bottom of the V branch with a rope knot, then the plants will propagate on the rope and help propagate every 4/5 days.
    6. Weeding
In plastic mulch, weeding is done in the planting hole by pulling it out carefully so as not to damage the roots of the melon plants.
Weeds that grow in the ditches are cleaned so they don't become nests for pests.
